About Fasnacht
Basler Fasnacht is the world’s largest Protestant carnival and a central tradition of Basel. Held every year between February and March, it transforms the city for three days with illuminated lanterns, masked cliques, and the unmistakable sound of piccolos and drums. A key symbol of the celebration is the Blaggedde—the annual badge supporting the event. Since 2017, Basler Fasnacht has been part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, reflecting its cultural and historical importance.
